I wish to express my sincere gratitude for all the help I have received from my study of Christian Science during the twenty-six years that have elapsed since I began its study. Brought up by a devoted Christian mother, in the Methodist Church, I accepted its creed and teachings about God and man, and joined the church at the age of twelve. About a year after this, we moved into a community where there was no Methodist church. I then became a member of the Congregational Church and was, later, very active in all departments of its work for several years. I studied the Bible deeply, trying to get a clear idea of God; but became more and more confused regarding Him. I could not understand why Christians could not do the healing works that Jesus did. I tried to reconcile the thought of a God who is Love and all-powerful, with all the misery in the world, and failed to such an extent that I began to doubt the existence of God. This condition of thought culminated in nervous prostration. Christian Science healed me of this, revealed God to me as perfect Principle and man as His idea. It revealed the unreality of the misery in the world, and how it could be healed. It also revealed to me the fact that brain and nerves are not Mind; that the one Mind is infinite intelligence, and that man is the idea of this Mind.
Many rich blessings have come to me through Christian Science, for which I am very grateful. It has been my privilege to have class instruction, which gave me a broader conception of the mission of Christian Science to the whole world. I have made many mistakes in my journey from sense to Soul, for which I am very sorry; but have never wholly lost sight of the goal toward which I was going.
I am grateful for the wisdom of our Leader, who, in following our Way-shower, Christ Jesus, gave us the Manual, which is established as the law of government of our church.
