When the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, was loaned to me, I expected to read it as I would read any other book; but the first paragraph in the first chapter made that impossible, and I knew I had an unusual book. I read on for some time, and then began to realize that it seemed reasonable; but I was not quite willing to accept it without some proof of its truth. I asked a friend, whom I knew to be a Christian Scientist, if she believed in it; and her reply was very positive and convincing, for she had had many proofs of its healing power. She also told me that I might have that same privilege by having treatment for any physical or mental trouble that I had.

I was very anxious to have the proof, and decided to ask for treatment for my eyes. I had always had trouble with them, and had been convinced by able eye specialists in several large cities that the retina was imperfect from birth, and that nothing could be done except to relieve the strain on them by wearing glasses. I was wearing glasses, and had accepted the statement of these specialists as true. The healing came in two days,—and I, also, had proof of the wonderful truth that is healing all mankind. Since that time I have had numberless proofs that the truth, as taught by Mary Baker Eddy, does not fail when applied correctly to any problem. I am trying to learn true gratitude for all the blessings I have received.
