Paul said, "Let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall." One evening, forgetting that "underneath are the everlasting arms," I slipped on the ice and fell. A Christian Scientist was with me and instantly declared the truth, so that the pain left my ankle in a few minutes and I was able to walk home; but the pain in my limb seemed very severe all night, and for two days I was in bed and could not walk. Remembering Mrs. Eddy's admonition in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 420), "If students do not readily heal themselves, they should early call an experienced Christian Scientist to aid them," I received help from a practitioner who lovingly prayed for me; and in a short time the pain and lameness disappeared. A physician who came to me for help told me if I had been under medical treatment I would have been put in a plaster cast and have been in severe pain for weeks. During the time I was obliged to remain in the house as a result of the accident I studied Mrs. Eddy's writings faithfully, and searched my thoughts to destroy all that was not like good. I find that when I resent evil in any form I make a reality of it, and it darkens me and separates me from the light of Love; for resentment is akin to hatred.
Thirty years ago Christian Science healed me of pain in my back from which I had suffered seven years; and since that time health and strength have been mine, for which I am most grateful to God. There have been false beliefs to overcome at times, but Love never fails to overcome all my temptations. The main thoughts which I learned from Mrs. Eddy's teachings were: "Love is Life," and "Childlikeness." I never saw such humility in another.
My gratitude to God and to Mrs. Eddy can only be proved by reflecting the Mind of Christ, and by learning the meaning of that Love which casts out fear.—(Miss) Mary E. Eaton, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
