I turned to Christian Science in the first place for physical healing. I was not interested in what I thought was a new religion. I wanted the healing only—the loaves and fishes. In spite of this unsympathetic attitude I was healed of chronic indigestion, bowel trouble, and other chronic functional disorders which had distressed and handicapped me for some time, and from which conventional material remedies had failed to do more than give me temporary relief.
Not long after this healing was gained I was freed from the liquor and tobacco habits of several years' standing, both of which had a strong hold on me, and from which I had made, through will-power, several unsuccessful attempts to free myself. Both of these habits were completely destroyed by the prayerful study of the Bible in conjunction with the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. The taste for liquor and tobacco left me by becoming repugnant to me, and has never returned.
Christian Science healed me of these and other things several years ago; and it has kept me, with one or two slight interruptions, in excellent health ever since—a marked contrast to my experience previous to becoming interested in Christian Science. Since my first healing, fears of various kinds have been overcome. Greater freedom has been gained in all right directions, as well as a brighter and wider outlook on life. All that is worth while in my life I owe to Christian Science, which is, moreover, gradually dispelling whatever is baneful and useless in my experience. Christian Science every day is proving of inestimable value in the solution of the daily problems of my office and my home. In other words, I have gained in Christian Science a practical religion which may be used every day and on all occasions of one's daily round.
