In a recent issue of your paper the evangelist says among other things that Mrs. Eddy did not "believe" in death. Right here it may be said that the one great difference between Christian Science and other religions is, that Christian Science is not a collection of creeds, confessions, or beliefs. It is what its name indicates, scientific demonstrable Christianity. One can prove for himself by demonstration the truth of its teachings, hence its availability to meet humanity's need, here and now. Christian Science teaches that death is not real, in the sense of being God-created. If it were there could be no hope of ever overcoming or destroying it. Death is the result of sin, and death is being destroyed by the destruction of sin. In Revelation we are told of the final destruction of death, when "there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain." Christian Science through its Christlike ministry is bringing this glorious experience to a nearer realization.

This evangelist makes another misstatement to the effect that Christian Science denies God. On page 465 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, we find this definitionof God: "God is incorporeal, divine, supreme, infinite Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, Love." Also on page 497 of the same book: "We acknowledge and adore one supreme and infinite God. We acknowledge His Son, one Christ; the Holy Ghost or divine Comforter; and man in God's image and likeness." The word Principle is used by Mrs. Eddy in the sense in which Webster defines it, as origin. Thus she properly capitalizes the word and uses it in designating God as the divine Principle of all that really exists. I feel quite sure that no Christian doubts that God is the divine cause, or source, of existence.

The evangelist further says that Christian Science denies the atonement. If there is any one thing more than another that the ministry should be grateful to Christian Science for, it is that it has shown them a way out of their theological snarl concerning atonement. The efficacy of the atonement was to reconcile man to God, to bring man into at-one-ment with the Father. Mrs. Eddy's definition of atonement is so clear, concise, and understandable that the New Standard Dictionary has given her definition as it appears on page 18 of the Christian Science textbook: "Atonement is the exemplification of man's unity with God, whereby man reflects divine Truth, Life, and Love."
