The Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"...
The Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, had been in our home for more than a year before I took any interest in it, except that I was grateful for my mother's healing; for never from a child had I known her to be so well. However, the time came when she was again called upon to prove God's power to heal, and she asked me to read to her from the textbook. Eager to help her, I read with an open thought. When she was better, and it was no longer necessary to read to her, I continued to read for myself, because I believed the book contained the truth about God and His relation to man, something I so much wanted to know. For weeks I read practically nothing but the Bible, Science and Health, and a number of Journals and Sentinels which were in the home. While I had no thought of physical help, I soon realized that my general health was much improved; that I was freed, in a great measure, from nameless fears and spells of mental depression. A constantly tired feeling was replaced with strength and an interest in life. Since that time I have been healed of a bowel disorder of long standing. Attacks of grippe and acute indigestion have been healed very quickly, and a badly affected eyeball was healed within a week through absent treatment.
Our son, twelve years of age, has never known any other teaching, and it is cause for much gratitude to see the child-thought turn naturally to our Father-Mother, God, for help. Ivy poisoning on the face, mumps, measles, whooping cough, and influenza have, with the loving help of practitioners, been overcome so well that he has never spent one whole day in bed. As a family, I know that we have been wonderfully cared for and protected, and I thank God for our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who labored so lovingly to give this great truth to the world.
I am very grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church; also for the privilege of class teaching. My desire is that my life may prove the gratitude my words express.—(Mrs.) Ora S. Martin, Brooklyn, N. Y.
