The Lectures

Every thinking person, in these days of unrest, doubt, fear, hate, and greed, realizes that material means are powerless to rescue the world the abyss of misery and suffering into which it is plunged, and that it is by spiritual means alone that a genuine "on earth peace, good will toward men" can be established. It is by spiritualization of thought, beginning with the individual, that nations can become in reality, what they are in name,—Christian. Those of us who have studied Christian Science, whose animating motive is unselfed love, and who have honestly tried to make its divine Principle the guide of our lives, have proved, in proportion to our understanding, that we are able to utilize the ever operating law of God, good, to replace discord of every nature with harmony. And so, like the woman in Luke's gospel, who, having found the lost piece of silver, called in her friends and neighbors, saying, "Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost," we long to share with all mankind this rediscovered truth. It is the truth given to the world by Jesus the Christ twenty centuries ago, the healing factor of which had become obscured during the ages which followed, until in the year 1866 its Principle was revealed to Mary Baker Eddy.
