For the benefit of those who when put to the test find...
For the benefit of those who when put to the test find their faith faltering between Christian Science and material remedies, I wish to tell how I was spared, through the ministrations of the former, from being a life-long cripple.
In an automobile accident, some two years ago, two wheels of the car ran over my body, breaking one hip at the joint, bruising the flesh on both limbs all the way to the knees, and straining every ligament in the knees. I was lifted from the pavement into a car. A Christian Science practitioner who was attending a church meeting three blocks away was called, and accompanied me to my home. I was carried upstairs to my room, the practitioner remaining with me for the night. We dismissed every one from the room, not making known to them the nature of the injury. Neither the practitioner nor I thought for an instant of material remedies, and no physician was called, or even thought of. We looked to God and God alone,—a very frequent admonition of the practitioner. I was put to bed, the light turned out, and the practitioner also retired. During the night, as fever and other physical symptoms, which usually attend such conditions, presented themselves, they were overcome by the truth.
Before leaving me the next morning, the practitioner placed me in a chair beside the bed and asked me to sit up a little while; which I did. I sat up a little each day. The practitioner came daily for six days, and thereafter every other day until I was able to realize man's God-given dominion. At the end of three weeks, on one of her visits, I walked downstairs and one block down the street with her. In this walk we discovered that injured limb was over two inches shorter than the other. This was corrected by the truth. A week later I went to the Wednesday evening testimony meeting, and walked into the church perfectly erect—with ease and freedom. The healing was complete and perfect; and God was the only physician.
