Christian Science came to me about ten years ago, after many years spent in search for the true light in the Bible. Even as a child, I was taught that God had a place of eternal punishment called hell. Then, when my teacher would say that God loved us more than our parents, I could not understand how God could have such a place of torment for His children. When the Christian Science textbook, "Scienceand Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was first handed me, I opened it and read (p. 142), "Which was first, Mind or medicine?" and it sounded so pertinent that I read further and found the teachings of Christian Science to be the true light; and it grows truer to me each day, as I become richer in the knowledge of our one Father-Mother God.
I have been completely healed of long-standing bowel trouble, just through the reading and understanding of the Christian Science textbook. Also, I have been lifted out of a terribly melancholy disposition, which had made me very unhappy. Christian Science has healed me of many physical ailments; but these healings are nothing compared with the spiritual uplift which has come to me through knowing Life as spiritual, not material. To know that man belongs to the one Mind, God, the Father of all, helps us to forget self, and to think of others,—to love our neighbor as ourselves. For all these teachings I am very grateful; and my daily prayer is that I may gain more of spiritual understanding, so that I can help others. I am trying to prove my gratitude by my deeds, and not merely by words.
