Christian Science was brought to my notice soon after I...
Christian Science was brought to my notice soon after I had settled in Paris. It found me in a very depressed condition. My childhood had been spoilt by my being delicate, and the doctor said I must never exert myself, else I would fall ill. This condition brought about extreme nervousness, and although not selfish by nature I became self-centered and wretched. The Protestant faith gave me no comfort, but I would spend many hours on my kness praying and reading the Bible in hopes of a ray of light.
At that time I received a letter from a friend telling me that two of her relatives had just become interested in Christian Science and that they found it all-sufficing. My first thought was to find out whether a Christian Science church existed here. Seeing the announcement of services, I attended the very next Wednesday evening testimony meeting. I knew from that moment I had at last found the truth. My first healing was from backache, which disappeared while reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. Colds, headaches, influenza, blistered feet, fatigue, and many other ills were also overcome.
I am especially grateful for the following incident, which took place during the late war. My husband was mobilized; and my friends left, one after the other. I found myself alone in the home for quite eight months. The first few days I suffered from extreme loneliness; then suddenly the realization came that I had only to turn away from a personal sense of friendship to find all companionship in divine Mind and His ideas. This more earnest reliance upon God as the source of joy brought a radiance and a peace which had hitherto been unknown.
