Christian Science teaches that since there is but one God,...

Christian Science teaches that since there is but one God, there can be but one Mind and that one infinite, even that Mind which, as the Apostle Paul tells us, "was also in Christ Jesus;" and it further holds that it is the purifying and curative power of this Mind, and not corporeal will, which operates in human consciousness to correct false material beliefs and heal disease. In this connection, Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has stated on page 144 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures:" "Human will-power is not Science. Human will belongs to the so-called material senses, and its use is to be condemned. Willing the sick to recover is not the metaphysical practice of Christian Science, but is sheer animal magnetism."

The adherents of this religion, accepting the precepts and practices of Christ Jesus as their guide, are to-day reproducing his divine philosophy, healing the sick and reforming the sinful by purely spiritual means. Jesus, it will be recalled, invariably cited his healing works rather than his doctrine as proof of his divine authority, and distinctly commanded his followers to heal the sick as well as to preach the gospel. In spite of this fact, however, a certain type of religionist, failing to comprehend or refusing to obey the Master's command in respect to spiritual healing, persistently strives to deprecate its practice by Christian Scientists, and loudly condemns them for including it as part of their Christian ministry. Religionists of this class, however, should not be confused with, or accepted as reflecting the views of, those earnest and unselfish members of the ministry whose deep and conscientious love for God has lifted their thought above religious prejudice. The devoted interest in the welfare of mankind prompts such as these to extend the hand of Christian fellowship to all who are sincerely striving to follow in the footsteps of the great Exemplar, thus endeavoring to bring some measure of the Christ to human consciousness.
