Infinite Possibilities

In the material world to-day, there are wonderful things coming to light in the line of new discoveries and inventions. These are the result of years of study and the closest application of the so-called laws of matter. Yet, after all the study and experimentation, how limited is the product, because there is so much more to be learned, and conditions are so constantly changing! The world appreciates these results of human thinking; and well it may, for a great sacrifice of worldly pleasure, time, material supply, ease, and other things that men hold dear, has been the price paid. There is always uncertainty and limitation connected with human thinking; but as thought rises from a material basis to the spiritual, the infinite possibilities of man are seen and recognized.

"Science reveals the glorious possibilities of immortal man, forever unlimited by the mortal senses," we read on page 288 of the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. It is through the study of Christian Science that we learn how to apply to human experience the truth about man and his relation to God; and by constantly making this application, under every circumstance and condition, we learn that limitation is not a law of God. As this fact becomes evident, it is plain that all things are possible to God and, by reflection, to man—His image and likeness—as well. The restrictions that so-called mortal mind would impose upon human endurance and material effort are forgotten in the contemplation of the "glorious possibilities of immortal man;" and as this thought is uppermost, a freedom in all lines of work will be manifest.

Why does the housekeeper, after hours of arduous physical labor in her efforts to bring out a greater sense of purity and harmony in the home, seem sometimes to experience a sense of weariness? Simply because there is, in mortal thought, a belief that the body, of itself, acts; that muscles, supposed to have life and intelligence in them, become weary. Christian Science teaches that the real energies of man are spiritual, and can never wear out; and if thought were held steadfastly to the truth about man's immortal selfhood, weariness would not result from legitimate labor. This is one of the revelations that Christian Science brings regarding the possibilities of man.
