I had no idea of getting healing, nor in fact did I much care whether I did or not, when I first came across Christian Science. The first chapter of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, on Prayer, convinced me, however, that Christian Science must be true. Many passages in Science and Health annoyed me; but so much was so easily understood and clearly true, that I saw the rest must be all right, if I really understood it.

About a year before this time, I had been refused by a life insurance company, as the doctors claimed I had diabetes; and I was rapidly losing weight, although dieting and so forth, according to doctors' orders. I also used to wear glasses for reading. Before I had read very much of the Christian Science textbook, I found that glasses were no longer necessary. Chronic constipation, for which I had taken medicine every day for years, also ceased to trouble me. So sure was I that these healings were the result of understanding this wonderful truth, that I gave up all dieting and other precautions ordered by doctors, and ate everything I liked. A year or so later, on being examined to please a friend, I was passed as perfectly sound.

Any number of minor troubles of daily life have been overcome; and I can never be too grateful for the certainty that I have found the truth at last,—the truth that sets us free,—thanks entirely to that splendid woman, Mrs. Eddy, who teaches us through Science and Health how to understand the Bible, and so to understand divine Principle, God, "who healeth all thy diseases."
