We became acquainted with Christian Science through...
We became acquainted with Christian Science through my eldest brother. In the fall of 1916 he was very ill and compelled to lie in bed for weeks. At the same time his wife was in a hospital, suffering severely. My brother was constantly becoming worse, and he believed death was near. One day a friend here in Germany sent him a copy of Der Herold. He read it and found the name and address of a practitioner, to whom he immediately turned in his great distress, and she visited and comforted him. When she returned to work further for him in Christian Science, he was already up; however, he was still afraid to go out on the street. That evening the practitioner asked him to accompany her to a reading room. He replied that this would be impossible as he could not walk, and to travel by train would cause him to faint. After it was firmly and lovingly explained to him that "with God all things are possible," he prepared to go, although still unbelieving and timid. While they were waiting for the train my brother was suddently freed from all sense of fear. From that time on he improved daily. The practitioner also worked for his wife, and she also became well. Soon afterwards my brother was offered an excellent position on an estate, where he is now living in health and contentment with his family. Before his departure I was suffering severely from a knee wound which did not seem to become any better. My brother wrote to the practitioner from Posen, requesting her to work for me. I did the best I could myself, studying the textbook and discarding all medicines formerly used. My knee was almost instantly healed, and when the practitioner came to visit me I was just returning from a walk. Since we have been connected with Christian Science much good has come to us. We have been helped wonderfully financially. All sorts of sickness have been overcome, wretched circumstances have begun to become lighter, and inharmony is gradually changing into harmony. The Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, teaches us through her writings to look confidently into the future, and she explains that in the measure in which we possess trust in God, He will reveal His love.
We thank God for all the blessings He has bestowed upon us through Christian Science.
