Reflection

Should a little sunbeam say:
I have so much to do to-day—
So much darkness to make light,
So much glooming to make bright,
So many hearts to warm and cheer—
I am not strong enough, I fear.
I must make more light, more heat,
That I the cold world's needs may meet.
I must work to shine!

Would not the great sun gently say:
You do not have to light your ray,
Dear little beam; I give the light
To make the whole world warm and bright.
To carry it is all you care;
To reflect the light you bear.
Limitless is your supply
Which I give you from on high.
You only have to shine.

So we, the beams from God's great sun—
Life and Truth and Love as one—
Do not have to make the power
To brighten up one darkened hour;
That is given us from above,—
The light of Truth, the warmth of Love;—
Limitless is our supply.
To reflect the glory from on high
We only have to shine.
