With a deep sense of gratitude for Christian Science and...

With a deep sense of gratitude for Christian Science and what it has done for me, I send this testimony. I feel as if all I have of health and joy I owe to the proving of its truth. I first became interested in Christian Science in July of 1914, by attending church one Sunday with my brother-in-law, who was a Christian Scientist and was paying us a visit. In November, 1915, I was overcome with severe pains in my head and eyes, followed with dizziness. After several of these attacks I consulted a physician. He prescribed electrical treatments, also gave me some medicine to take. This was in December. I made arrangements for electrical treatments daily and commenced taking the medicine. Very shortly afterwards I had the most severe attack I had yet had. I had lost some faith in material means helping me, and made up my mind to try Christian Science, but at the same time holding on with one hand to materia medica. Knowing a practitioner in our town I called her up, and she went to work for me. I continued looking after my business until after the holidays, when my condition was so much worse I remained at my home and left my business in charge of my son. The first demonstration I had of the truth was shortly after this. I was instantly healed of smoking, through this practitioner's help. I had been an inveterate smoker for forty years, and I was relieved of the desire for it, and did not try it again for nearly a year, when I found I had lost all desire for it. I have not smoked since or wanted to. This was in January, 1916. February, 1916, I went to Florida as I thought a change might help me, as I was still hanging on to materia medica. I returned in March, not improved to any noticeable extent, but continued Christian Science treatments until May of that year. I then changed to materia medica, when my troubles began and were pronounced arteriosclerosis by the physicians. I continued material treatments until January 31, 1917, trying everything recommended. Finally I was informed that mine was one of the incurable diseases. Realizing then that God was my only help, I turned to Him and wrote to a practitioner in a distant city, and in fifteen days I was at my place of business, and have been in charge of it ever since. I am entirely cured of the so-called incurable disease, and I have gained twenty pounds in weight. I am indeed very grateful for this healing and for many other blessings that come into my daily life.—D. I. Willard, Bellefonte, Penn.
