[Written for the Sentinel]

Alone with God

Alone , alone, upon the boundless sea,
Tossed by the waves and driven by the wind—
A voice from out the darkness comes to me:
But look to God, and comfort you shall find.

Alone, alone, amidst the dreary waste
Of sandy desert, having lost the way—
A still, small voice declares: No need for haste,
The path is plain, look up and see the day.

Alone, alone within the very heart
Of crowded cities comes the word of cheer:
Only believe, when from all friends you part,
That God is everywhere, and therefore here.
