In stepping down onto the platform of a car one day my heel caught and I plunged forward, but saved myself from falling. When I attempted to walk, however, there was considerable pain in the foot, and I was only just able to get off the car. Friends who had seen me stumble came to my assistance, and I tried to assure them that I would be all right in a few minutes, but gradually things began to grow dim. When I recovered consciousness I was sitting on a bench, and an official was asking for my name and address. Realizing what had happened, I wished to enlighten him that there had been in reality no accident, and that I was not hurt, so I vigorously moved and shook my foot, asserting that it was all right and there was no pain in it. This I affirmed with the conviction that it was so, although I had not tested it since the time when the pain had been severe enough to make me faint. After thanking those who were offering me restoratives, but declining them, I said I was able to go up the subway steps to the street and did so without pain or inconvenience. Shortly after this I went home, and later in the afternoon walked several blocks to call on a friend. There was no more pain, no discoloration, no lameness, and no fear of using the foot.
I shall always be grateful for the blessing of this experience, that my last thoughts before losing consciousness and my first on recovering were of the truth. I am glad to have this opportunity to acknowledge what Christian Science, through Mrs. Eddy's inspired vision, has taught me.
