Christian Science had been presented to my notice by friends several times, but I had never been shown the text-book, nor had I read any of the authorized literature, and from the little I had casually heard of its teachings I thought it might be useful to nervous people with fancied ailments, but of no benefit to anyone who was really suffering, like myself. I had, however, always been searching for Truth and studied many ologies and isms in my unavailing efforts to find it. Delicate from childhood, I grew up in bondage to many diseases,—gout, rheumatism, neuralgia, stomach disorder in its most troublesome forms, with other internal ailments, and a lifelong bowel difficulty. My condition went from bad to worse as I grew older.

Then I saw a case of healing in Christian Science take place under my own eyes in the house where I was staying; it was a condition that nothing else could have reached. After that for about six months I attended the Wednesday evening testimony meetings at a Church of Christ, Scientist, in London, but in a very doubting, discordant frame of mind. Then I borrowed a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, from a reading room, and during the first fortnight in which I read it, my mental eyes were opened and I began to see—to see that God had not bound me with these fetters, and that if I could only learn to know Him and man's true relation to Him, I should indeed be free. This understanding healed me at once of the stomach trouble and since then I have been learning to eat anything set before me, without pain or fear. For the bowel difficulty and the other internal troubles I asked for treatment and was healed within a week. To me this was a miracle most wonderful, after so many years of pain and weakness.

Having bought a copy of the textbook in April, 1913, I began earnestly to study for myself the wonderful truths set forth therein so clearly and so bravely by Mrs. Eddy, with the result that I have never used any material remedies since, and am better, healthier, happier than ever before. An attack of chicken pox, which came a few weeks after my first healing, was overcome by a practitioner within twenty-four hours, and there was no period of convalescence. Influenza, which used to be a constant dread, with weeks of illness and convalescence, now no longer frightens me. Twice I have quickly had relief from this form of discord by asking for help in Science, and the last time I was able to overcome it myself. The condition came on quite suddenly late in the afternoon. I at once set to work to declare the truth and before twelve o'clock that night, fell sound asleep to awaken refreshed and well in the morning.
