I am very thankful for the spiritual understanding which has come to me through the study of Christian Science and for the capacity to apprehend thought which it has unfolded to me. It is now ten years since I began reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. During this time a constant transformation of mind and body has been going on,—a gradual uplifting of thought from material beliefs to the understanding of Truth. Science and Health has unlocked for me many of the golden treasures of the Bible. It has led me by day and guided me by night until faith has been lifted to the understanding that there is but one God, one Father, "who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases." In "Unity of Good" (p. 3) our Leader says: "God is All-in-all.... He is all the Life and Mind there is or can be." This has been proved in my daily experience.
The way has not always been easy nor healing instantaneous, because the "old leaven" had to be purged out before the light could be seen. Some days were dark, very dark, but by holding to the fact that man is "God's spiritual idea, individual, perfect, eternal" (Science and Health, p. 115), the light always came. I am daily proving sin and sickness to be the result of wrong thought, which God neither sends nor allows and about which He knows nothing, for He is "of purer eyes than to behold evil." I have been healed of what was called hereditary consumption. The doctors did all there was to be done from the medical standpoint, but my condition became such that material remedies could do nothing for me. Two years previous, while crossing the Atlantic, I had met a Christian Scientist who told me I could be healed in Christian Science. The assurance fell on deaf ears then, but when doctors could do no more for me, I began reading Science and Health. Very soon I gave up both doctors and medicine and I have never once since reverted to either. I had no practitioner, but simply studying Science and Health healed me. I was awakened to search for the meaning of truth as Jesus used the word in the statement, "If ye continue in my word, ... ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," and in that search I found health before I was humanly conscious of what healed me. From a woman with "no stomach," "no heart," and "only a part of one lung," according to the doctors, I have been transformed into a healthy, happy woman. I say to all who read this that health, wholeness, and harmony await all who seek the Christ, Truth, through Christian Science.
Mrs. Eddy was the chosen channel for the practical revelation of the spirit of Truth, or "the Comforter" as promised by Jesus, and Science and Health is the fulfillment of the promise for which the world owes gratitude and thanksgiving. I can never express sufficient gratitude for our periodicals. They are beautiful lights, giving rays of spiritual illumination to the pathway on the journey heavenward. Each one in turn supplies a need.
