Some time ago, when removing the stopper from a metal...

Some time ago, when removing the stopper from a metal hot water bottle which had been left on the stove to heat, I was severely scalded. Steam had accumulated inside and when the stopper was removed a stream of scalding water and steam rushed up into my face and eyes. No Christian Science practitioner was available except by long distance telephone, and as I had no telephone and it was midnight, too late to use a neighbor's I sat down to work it our myself. In about twenty minutes the pain, which had been considerable, was gone. The next morning there was nothing left but a scarcely discernible redness and, if I touched the place, a very slight soreness, all of which quickly disappeared. A friend who on a similar occasion sought medical help was enveloped in bandages for several days and suffered much from pain and shock; so that I feel I have much to be thankful for.

It would be hard to say exactly what thoughts came to help me, but I think the dominant one was that accidents are unknown to the divine Mind; and certainly that one was wiped from consciousness except as a cause for gratitude in that it led to another proof of God's power. Best of all is the gradual putting off of the old thought and putting on of the new. I shall be very happy if this testimony helps some other student.—(Miss) Rose Keene, Agassiz, British Columbia, Canada.
