My longing for something real led me, two years ago, to...
My longing for something real led me, two years ago, to a Christian Science lecture in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. There I learned that I could trust God to aid me in all my human affiars, and I immediately purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy to prove whether or not some of the statements the lecturer had made were true. I found they were.
My trust in God immediately changed my work and placed me in a new environment. In less than two weeks all desire for tobacco left me. This at the time seemed wonderful to me, as I had been an inveterate user of the weed for twenty years. Soon the desire for liquor also disappeared. Step by step my thought was transformed and fear of the future vanished. Self-aggrandizement, self-will, self-pity, doubt and worry, and a quick temper have been largely overcome and my entire disposition has been changed. My life as a traveling salesman had been to a great extent made up of nonessentials, and the joy of finding my existence filled with an ever increasing capacity for having and giving the good which God provides in its abundance, was wonderful.
As I am about to leave the country for an indefinite period, I want to leave this testimony of what two years' sincere study of Christian Science has accomplished. My wife and I enjoy the privilege of membership in The Mother Church and our ten-year-old daughter attends the Sunday school. The proof by daily living according to its teachings is my expression of love and gratitude for the many channels of Truth through which Christian Science to-day becomes known to all earnest seekers.
