I first heard of Christian Science through a dear sister...
I first heard of Christian Science through a dear sister who had been healed after many years of suffering, but for some time I turned a deaf ear to all her loving advice, although I was weighed down by my family cares and ill health, while lack of means was a heavy burden. In the summer of 1911 divine Love led me to borrow a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I read it through and many things which I had not understood became clear. The following January my sister gave me a copy for my own, and her delight in doing so I shall not forget. She also sent me the Quarterly regularly for some time, so that I could study the lesson daily. For ten years I had suffered from bowel trouble and had used material means, but a few months after beginning to study Science and Health I was able to do away with every material help and rely entirely on divine Love, the true healer. That was three years ago. Since then Christian Science has changed my life entirely and brought into it such happiness as I thought could never be mine.
I am very grateful for our literature, which has helped me very much; some of the articles seemed as though written to suit my need at the time. I am grateful also for the daily enlightenment and progress which I have proved follows if we are true and steadfast in our work. My daily prayer is for more wisdom and understanding. That I may give comfort to others and help them is my earnest desire. I have received much loving assistance from friends, and for this, too, I am grateful. I thank God every day for the understanding I have gained, and cannot express my gratitude as I should like to our dear Leader for our wonderful textbook, which has made the Bible so clear and removed many seeming mysteries.
