I was an active member of a Protestant church and thought I had all that was to be had as regards knowledge of God. A sister attended the Christian Science services and had some wonderful healings. She tried to interest me in the subject, but I was satisfied with my religion. Finally I developed a cough which became very alarming, as it had all the symptoms of tubercular disease. A brother and a sister had passed on with that trouble when they were about the age I was then and I had cared for them, being a professional nurse. This added to my fear.
I reluctantly purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and began to study, but with a bitter prejudice against Mrs. Eddy. As I read, however, I saw how mistaken I had been in my judgment and became more calm. I was having treatment but felt that I was wasting money, so that feeling also had to be overcome. After that real progress began, and the cough with all fear of its ever returning left me. A throat affection which had been with me several times during the cold season in former years has vanished. Severe burns have been healed, an injured ankle was restored to a normal condition in three days, and a skin disease of ten years' standing has been overcome.
Since I have taken up this study I am a better helpmate and friend. I fully realize that I am only a beginner in the study of Christian Science, but am more than thankful for the light which has come to me.
