During the Spanish-American war I received a gunshot...

During the Spanish-American war I received a gunshot wound in the head which caused me to suffer for several years from epilepsy, and during that time the constant attendance of another person was required. I was of course under the doctor's care, but after several operations, from which no improvement resulted, I was advised to try so-called "New Thought." Although this treatment was followed for eight or ten years the result was discouraging, and I finally became a complete nervous wreck. While in this condition I telephoned to a Christian Science practitioner and asked for help. Though I immediately commenced to improve, my healing was slow, but this caused me to study Science and Health more thoroughly than would have been done if I had been quickly healed. After about three months' treatment I was instructed to continue the healing work myself, and with a feeling of gratitude I can now say that I am completely healed. Many faults, such as bad temper, the tobacco and drink habit, the use of foul language, and excessive appetite have also been left behind.

For the mental and moral regeneration and the overcoming of many minor ailments I am very thankful to God and grateful to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who has lovingly shown us the upward path.
