Truth's Final Peace Offer

AT night, on Mount of Olives, Jesus kept
A faithful vigil while earth's nations slept.
By day, within the temple's calm, he taught
The verities of being he had wrought
To gain on Olives' heights. Again, this hour,
The world receives the wondrous peace and pow'r
Of those blest nights of wakefulness and days
Of restful teaching. God's triumphant ways
Declare earth's peace,—the peace all nations keep
Forever. Mind's truths slumber not nor ever sleep.
The Master taught: Who would be great must be
The least of all, since Truth alone makes free;
Who would be first is servant still of all;
One chained by human pride is error's thrall.

Earth's tumults end; sin's strivings now shall cease;
The world accepts Truth's final gift of peace.
Yea, Mind's last offer of true peace is giv'n,
Proclaiming church and home and work and heav'n
As one. To watch upon Love's heights by night,
And teach by day the wondrous pow'r and might
Of God, the King of heav'n and earth, is still
The work of all mankind. To do God's will,—
To keep the pledge of Truth eternally,
Earth's nations shall forever watch and pray.
At night, on Mount of Olives, Jesus sought
To heal a sleeping world. By day, he taught
Truth's lasting peace of love and joy and good,—
One church, one heaven, and one brotherhood.
