Christian Science has done a great deal for me during the last few years. It found me a physical wreck, and restored me to health. It found me relying on material pleasures and habits for happiness, and it filled me with spiritual joy and peace. It found me Christless and nearly Godless, and it showed me the Christ and gave me an understanding of God as a loving Father who does not know hate or wrath or revenge—a very different concept of God from that which my earlier training had given me.
I came to Christian Science for healing. Several years ago business worries began to assert themselves as real and they made me seek forgetfulness in material pleasures, including that which "biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder." For a long while I believed, in my ignorance, that this could go on indefinitely; but the time came when something had to be done if I was to continue my mortal existence, although I was not very keen to go on living: at least, I thought, there would be complete forgetfulness the other side of the grave. I was at last induced to try Christian Science, and I can never forget my first thought as the practitioner began to tell me of God, as revealed in Mrs. Eddy's works. It was this: Here is the kind of God I have been looking for ever since I began to think. The more I studied this teaching the more wonderful it seemed. It is a Utopian dream realized. My healing was complete in a few treatments. Then the unfolding began, and it has continued ever since. All of us have had moments of complete joy, even before we knew of this healing truth, but they did not last. It is always with us, if we reflect God; the spiritual joy is limitless.
Like thousands of others who have found in Christian Science all they could desire, the physical healing now seems but a small incident. At first my gratitude extended only to the practitioner, but as I continued to study and began to realize what my life would have been at the present time had not Mrs. Eddy given her wonderful discovery to the world, my gratitude to her became boundless.
