A revivalist, in referring to Christian Science recently, expressed his prejudice against it in unqualified terms. "But," continued the critic, "it is sin that causes disease, and if there were no sin there would be no sickness." In this reference to sin and disease he stated exactly what Christian Science teaches.

Without any thought of denying our brother the right to think of Christian Science as he pleases, I should like to call attention to the fact that his inconsistent charge of humbug against those who heal the sick by spiritual means is not new. It was made against the great Master, when the Jews accused him of casting out devils through Beelzebub. However, it is an established fact that that which heals sin and the effects of sin after the manner of Christ Jesus could not be humbug. The fact is attested by thousands upon thousands of voluntary testimonies, that Christian Science is freeing the slave of false appetite and lifting him into a life of health and usefulness; it is causing those who have followed after sin and the false pleasures of the carnal mind to strive to be more godlike; and it is preaching the gospel of love and righteousness to all mankind, and healing all manner of disease as "signs following," just as the great Master commanded.
