Extracts From Letters

"I have great pleasure in thanking you for The Christian Science Monitors duly received. Through reading our newspaper I have been greatly helped in maintaining that mental poise which seems so difficult at times under present conditions, but which is so essential if one would safely steer one's bark 'o'er earth's troubled, angry sea' (Poems, p. 12). I can truly say that to the Christian soldier the Monitor is a real inspiration to noble endeavor, and I am grateful to God for this token of love."

"Just a line or two to denote my appreciation of the Christian Science literature which you so kindly forward to me. With regard to the Monitor, I am able after reading it to leave it in the men's mess room each day, where it is read with interest, and I have heard quotations from it on several occasions, which has given me a chance to state what it stands for."

"I have to thank you kindly for the gift of newspapers sent to this battalion. They came at a very opportune time, since we were out at rest in a district where no readable matter could be purchased. All ranks appreciate the interest and labor you so willingly carry out in their behalf."
