[Written for the Sentinel]

Immanuel

When Love attunes my thought, and hatred flies,
And Truth lays bare life's ills 'neath sunlit skies,
Then Light of light! My heart in rapture cries.
God comes to me!

When 'neath the dawn's swift-disappearing dew
I catch the violet's eye of deepening blue,
And hear dear nature's song of joy anew,
'Tis God with me!
