A report of a lecture on "The Church and Mental Healing"...
Sheffield (England) Telegraph
A report of a lecture on "The Church and Mental Healing" contains a reference to Christian Science which is likely to leave quite an erroneous impression with the reader. This lecture, which is being delivered in various cities, always commences with the assertion that the "fundamental doctrine of Christian Science is all wrong." The teaching and practice of Christian Science is based entirely upon the Bible and the teaching of Christ Jesus, and because it refuses to compromise in any way with the sectarian teachings of the many religions, it is at once condemned as foolish, or even worse.
All spiritual reality, looked at from the standpoint of the "natural man," will necessarily appear foolishness, because the things of God must and can only be spiritually discerned, so that the one proof which is accepted by all right thinking inquirers is that of "signs following." The experiences of those who have put the teachings of Christian Science to the test in their daily lives have proved beyond doubt that this new-old religion is not only bringing to their consciousness the scientific and exact knowledge of God, but also, as Jesus said the Word should, is lifting them out of sorrow and sin, and healing their diseases.
The hundreds of Christian Science churches and societies dotted all over the civilized world, with their hundreds of thousands of devout worshipers, most of whom have received in some way a practical proof of the value of its teaching, are surely sufficient evidence that the revelation of Mrs. Eddy to this age is the promised Comforter.
