In loving gratitude I wish to add my testimony to the thousands of others bearing witness to the truth as taught in Christian Science. In October, 1913, my husband took me to California to try to regain my health, for I was in the last stages of tubercular disease of the lungs. After we had been there a short time a doctor said my husband was inhuman or he would at least let me die near my mother; so giving up all hope of getting well, I stopped taking material remedies, and the doctor left me. On New Year's eve, which fell on a Wednesday that year, a dear friend asked me to attend a Christian Science church with her, which I did As we all know, there are many who come to scoff but remain to pray. That was my case, and on the way home I asked my friend if she would let me read her copy of Science and Health. This she did and said she would help me all she could. Later I was able to get a copy of my own, and by the middle of April I was completely healed. While not a stout woman I am very strong, and am most thankful that I learned of Christian Science in my great need. Since then I have had very few physical ills, and any discord that has come up has been overcome in a short time.
Through my healing my husband took up the study of Christian Science, and I am so thankful to know that it is surely a man's religion. Last January it seemed impossible for him to get a position, although he follwed up everything that looked like a prospect of work. Time went on and the last of June he still had no position, and on a Saturday morning we had thirty cents. It seemingly had been a long struggle, and when my husband said to me, "Well, what are we going to have for dinner to-morrow?" I answered: "We have enough in the house for to-day. Why worry about to-morrow?" Then I took the Bible, Science and Health, and the Quarterly, and put them on the table in front of him, saying, "There is your supply; now get after it." He said nothing, but started to study the lesson, and before he had finished the telephone rang and we were invited out to dinner the next day. Even then he was inclined to doubt and wanted to know how much I was going to give in church the next morning. I told him that I was going to give the usual amount, which would leave us five cents. The day passed and Sunday morning while we were at breakfast the telephone rang and a message came for my husband to go to see a gentleman about a line of work he had not done for four years. That proved to us that if we turn from our way and look to divine Principle, we cannot go wrong. My husband says he is now willing to let divine Love guide him in all things.
I am indeed grateful for all these proofs of Love's ever presence, but most grateful for every problem that comes to light, for the overcoming of each difficulty means visible proof of one step nearer to divine Mind. No words could express my love for our dear Leader for being brave and loving enough to endure all things so that the world could again have a practical understanding of this great truth. I am thankful to God and to Christ Jesus, and grateful to the many friends who have helped me.
