I am very grateful that my attention was drawn to Christian Science...
I am very grateful that my attention was drawn to Christian Science at a time when I was in a very discordant condition as a result of physical suffering due to an internal injury. For a number of years I was treated by several doctors, but never seemed to get any satisfaction or to improve in health. I was obliged to lie down the greater part of the time, and also suffered from mental depression and nervous debility. After living in this condition until hope seemed gone, I was taken to London to consult a great specialist. I was treated by him for six weeks, at the end of which time he decided that if I wished to walk again an operation would have to be performed. My own doctor, on hearing of this, said that no operation ought to take place, the risks being too great, and that he would not give his consent.
Nothing was left but to go on without an operation, so I gave up my home in Manchester and went to live in a seaside town in order to benefit by the sea air. After living there for a little while, my attention was drawn to Christian Science, and I attended a Sunday morning service. I was very much impressed by its spiritual nature and felt that Christian Science was the truth. I continued attending the sunday morning services, and also went to a Wednesday evening meeting. I was so attracted to the services that I could not keep away, and was entirely without thought of gaining physical healing for myself. Soon I procured the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and was surprised to find that it was of absorbing interest to me and contained such healing power. Through all this time my health was improving; I found myself better able to walk; and this experience continued until my healing was complete, an established fact. It has remained so to the present time, which to me seems very wonderful, as I am now in my seventy-ninth year.
I had not long been studying Christian Science when an enlargement appeared on my neck. It came suddenly and grew very rapidly. To satisfy my son, who is not a Christian Scientist, I consulted a doctor, who diagnosed the growth as malignant. I also obtained a second opinion, which corroborated this diagnosis. I immediately sought help from a Christian Science practitioner, and after a week's treatment the whole trouble disappeared.
