Among the Churches

Current Notes

Los Angeles, Cal.—The edifice of First Church of Christ, Scientist, located at 1366 South Alvarado Street, was dedicated on Sunday, November 25. It is the custom with churches of the Christian Science denomination not to dedicate their buildings until they are free from debt, and Christian Scientists of this city are rejoicing that the building of First Church has been completed and paid for in such a short space of time.

The first Christian Science society of Los Angeles was formed in 1892. In 1895 this society was incorporated as a Church of Christ, Scientist, and in 1898 reorganized under the name of First Church of Christ, Scientist, of Los Angeles. The first Christian Science church building in the city was erected by this organization in 1901 on West Seventeenth Street. The present church building and ground cost one hundred and fifty-two thousand dollars; its seating capacity is about twelve hundred.

Bath, Maine.—First Church of Christ, Scientist, has secured the use of Odd Fellows Hall, 109 Front Street, for the purpose of holding their regular Sunday morning services and Wednesday evening meetings. The removal from the Knights of Pythias Hall in the Y. M. C. A. building, where the church has been holding services for the past thirteen years, was occasioned by the closing up of that building on account of the scarcity of coal.
