Many blessings have come to me through the study of Christian Science. From girlhood I had bowel disorder and an organic disarrangement which at times caused me untold agony. My eyes also gave me a great deal of trouble. For three years I read Science and Health and studied the Lesson-Sermons in a desultory manner, and considerable help was received. The organic trouble slowly decreased, but one night I awoke in terrible pain. After reading for perhaps half an hour, the pain stopped, and I have never had a return of it since.
At this time I considered myself a Christian Scientist, though I allowed every material demand upon my time and thought to interfere with my search for the truth, and became more and more negligent in my study. My eyes grew worse, and for over a year I wore glasses, not being able to leave them off for an hour without having a terrible headache. About two years ago problems were presented to me which threatened to overwhelm me, and then I found that I was by no means a Christian Scientist, or even a loyal student, and that my understanding of Truth was entirely insufficient.
A practitioner was asked for help, and it came speedily. After a few treatments I laid off my glasses and could see perfectly; there was no return of the headaches, and the bowel difficulty also was overcome. Treatment was continued for nearly a year, and through the practitioner's patient explanations and encouragement the problems were solved. I gained an understanding of the spiritual light that shines through every page of the Bible and our beloved Leader's writings, which have become such treasures to me, and have learned that to "study thoroughly the letter and imbibe the spirit" (Science and Health, p. 495) is the only way to advance in the understanding of Christian Science.
