It is five years since I was healed in Christian Science
It is five years since I was healed in Christian Science. I had suffered from stomach trouble for twenty years or more, and after losing my wife, and three years later a daughter, I became a physical wreck, and many nights I could not sleep at all. I had one daughter left, who had married and was living in Milwaukee, and she urged me to come to live with her. Thinking that if I gave up business and lived as much as possible in the open air I could regain my health, I accepted her invitation. For the first year I worked in the garden, but there was not much improvement in my condition. Then I got a position to drive a light wagon, still hoping that outdoor life would benefit me.
One afternoon I told my employer that I did not feel well and would like to go home. I took the car, but after riding a few blocks became worse. A nurse who was acquainted with the family was on the car, and she came to my rescue. I had a hemorrhage of the stomach, and was unconscious when taken from the car and carried into a drug store. The nurse telephoned for an ambulance, and I was brought home. The family physician was called and my case diagnosed as a malignant growth of the stomach. He said I would have another hemorrhage, which would mean the end, so I should be watched closely.
About a month previous to this my daughter and I had bought a copy of Science and Health, as we were looking into Christian Science, and I had attended two services with a neighbor. While I was in bed my daughter used to read to me every day from this book, until I asked her why she read to me and still gave me medicine every hour. I said I was tired of being a hypocrite. We then called a Christian Science practitioner, and in three days I was able to get out of bed and sit in a chair. The fifth day after asking for help in Christian Science, I told my daughter I was healed. I had never felt better in my life; instead of things looking gloomy, as they had done for years, it seemed as if the kingdom of heaven had been opened up to me, and I was very happy.
