It is interesting to note that whereas formerly critics of Christian Science denounced this subject as being neither Christian nor scientific, now they are beginning to admit that science and Christianity do combine and are essentially indissoluble. It is but a fair illustration of what Agassiz once said: "Every great scientific truth goes through three stages. First, people say it conflicts with the Bible. Next, they say it has been discovered before. Lastly, they say they have always believed it." Christian Science has passed through these three stages; and the world is now waking up to the fact that Christianity in order to be true Christianity must be scientific.

From the feeling expressed by our friend, it is very evident that he is laboring under what he believes to be some personal grievance, and with a mistaken sense of what the teachings of Mrs. Eddy really are. To call these teachings "Eddyism" is no more reasonable or sensible than it would be to call the knowledge pertaining to the law which Newton discovered "Newtonism." Mrs. Eddy discovered an absolute, fixed law, based on Principle, with definite rules for its demonstration. The results obtained in the practice of these rules are sufficient proof of their divine origin.

To say that this teaching "is guilty, so far as it can be, of deicide," that it "would degrade Christ Jesus," is absurd. Mrs. Eddy's teachings are based absolutely upon the teachings of Jesus, and his Sermon on the Mount is fundamental. No body of people are more faithful students of the Bible, or worship the one true and living God more sincerely, than do Christian Scientists.
