I am always glad to tell of the great benefits that have come to me through Christian Science. I was one of the so-called skeptics, and am most grateful to know that there is a God, and that His goodness can be and is being demonstrated to many thousands of people every day. I would be guilty of injustice and ingratitude should I fail to express my appreciation and love for Mrs. Eddy and for her untiring efforts in behalf of mankind.

Christian Science found me deep in the "slough of despond." Having been caught in the financial panic of 1893 with large bills payable, bank failures and other contributing causes made it seem impossible that I would ever be able to pay the claims against me. I was tempted to resort to drink, thinking that it might "speed me up" in a business way, or possibly drown my troubles and sorrow, and I was even tempted to transfer the field of action to what then seemed to me the great unknown.

I refused the help offered by my dear sister, who had been a student of Christian Science for some years, even undertaking to prove to her that Christian Science was a farce; but suddenly a great light appeared,—that blessed light of understanding. I began to read Science and Health, and to my amazement was soon on firmer ground financially, mentally, physically, and morally. Anger, hate, jealousy, and revenge, the fruits of despondency, began to leave me; and I shall always be grateful above all things for the mental relief and spiritual uplift. My financial affairs soon got into better shape, and in due time all my debts were paid without loss to my creditors. Again I was a free man, with opportunity and expectancy in a large degree before me, thanks to Christian Science.
