Hymn to Columbia

O Loved Columbia! If perchance
Thy love for peace and right,
Through the fell stress of circumstance
Shall yield to war and night;
Though on thy gracious face the smile
Shall for the moment cease,
Yet may thy greatness in brief while
Compel enduring peace!

Columbia, child of liberty!
Blest leader of the world
In all that makes men high and free!
Thy flag is aye unfurled
For freedom, friendship, brotherhood,
For justice, kindness, right;
Thou sheddest ne'er a brother's blood
Because thine arm hath might!

Columbia, free-born child of light,
Thy power for good is great;
For right is mightier far than might,
And brotherhood than hate!
Then lift to heaven thy starry face,
So all mankind may see
Thy beauty, majesty, and grace,
Daughter of liberty!
