[Written for the Sentinel]

Awakening

Sunrise and glowing sky,
My heart at rest;
Beauty and Love divine,—
These are the best!

Ofttimes at eve I dreamed,
With eyes tear-dim;
Nothing seemed worth the pain,—
Till I knew Him!

Since then the world seems new,
Happy and calm.
With joy renewed, each dawn
Brings heavenly balm.

Fear gone, I'm now at peace
Where'er I go;
All that I need is here,—
Mine but to know!
