In the year 1913 I was severely tried in the school of life
In the year 1913 I was severely tried in the school of life. Illnesses, accidents, and the loss of a dear child had caused a physical and mental breakdown. Besides these, I passed through a very difficult childbirth which brought me to the edge of the grave. The baby too I had to sacrifice. But "man's extremity is God's opportunity;" so on the fourth day, when my sufferings were particularly severe, and when, owing to high fever, the condition seemed dangerous, I asked a dear friend for Christian Science treatment, which was readily given. I was quickly and completely healed and felt like a new person, strong and well. The physician, as well as all my acquaintances, were greatly astonished. I should like to point out that the medicine prescribed for me at the time of the crisis was never taken, because I was looking for help in another direction. I thank God with all my heart that we have found the truth which is an ever present help in trouble.
My son also had a wonderful healing. He suffered severely from the supposed effects of contact with poison ivy. His head and body were terribly swollen. For two days he was literally blind and suffered great pain. We at once telephoned to a Christian Science practitioner, and in ten days, having received four absent treatments, the child was completely healed. Two Sundays following this experience, while at Sunday school, he discarded his glasses. This was four years ago, and ever since that time he has been in good health. Besides this, pleurisy, measles, influenza, injuries, and many other ills have been healed in our family through this truth. Hatred, envy, and melancholy have disappeared from my consciousness, and sorrow has been overcome for me through the realization that there is no separation in Spirit.
I am filled with deep gratitude and appreciation to our Leader for having made known to us a world filled with the presence of divine Love. It is my sincere desire to live so as to be worthy of the name Christian Scientist, and to help others as I have been helped.
