In a recent review of a book there are some misleading references to Christian Science. This book does not set forth the teaching of Christian Science, but quite to the contrary, it misrepresents them.

For instance, Christian Science does not teach, as might be inferred from this review, that each "human being" has the power within himself to cure his ills. Christian Scientists do not claim for themselves any power apart from God, but are humble disciples of Christ Jesus, recognizing their utter inability to do the healing works except as they have in them the Mind of Christ. This religion is the Science of Christianity taught and demonstrated by Christ Jesus over nineteen hundred years ago, and its healing is accomplished in the same manner as were the so-called miracles of the Nazarene, not only without resort to recognized material methods but without human will power or suggestion.

On the subject of mental healing Mrs. Eddy says on page x of the Preface to the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "The first edition of Science and Health was published in 1875. Various books on mental healing have since been issued, most of them incorrect in theory and filled with plagiarisms from Science and Health. They regard the human mind as a healing agent, whereas this mind is not a factor in the Principle of Christian Science."
