From the tone of a recent editorial it would appear that its writer is at a loss to understand how a Christian Scientist is able to hold fast to the faith or understanding that is in him, even to the point of facing the "last enemy."

Having proved the inadequacy of material remedies, the true Christian Scientist could no more be tempted to return to them in the hour of his great extremity than one could be induced to return to the use of a candle after having experienced the brilliancy of the electric light. He is as sure of himself and of the Truth or Principle which the teachings of Christian Science reveal as he is of the fact that two and two make four. And even though he may be called to pass through the experience of death, he still knows that God is his Life; that he can no more be separated from God, his real Life, than the sunlight can be separated from the sun. He therefore reaches that point of absolute assurance where he can say with Paul, "None of these things move me, neither count I my life [mortal sense of life] dear unto myself."

The practice of Christian Science is not merely to prolong human existence; although through the application of the teachings of Mrs. Eddy human life is extended to a marked and noticeable degree. Were it not so, there would not be the widely published report of an occasional death of a Christian Scientist.
