For fourteen years I have proved the healing power of...
For fourteen years I have proved the healing power of Truth in Christian Science. The most difficult problem to be solved occurred as I was returning from the Sunday service over a year ago, when I fell on a wet pavement and seemingly was helpless to move, the left wrist being broken and the left leg sprained. I was taken to a hospital, but the only material means used was an anesthetic when the bone was being set, as the surgeon refused to take the case otherwise on account of the severe pain in the leg. I remained there two days, and in the mean time a Christian Science practitioner had been engaged and absent treatments were given. I would say here that most loving attention was shown me during my stay at the hospital. After a week's help at my home from a practitioner, I was impressed that the work was mine to do.
Instruction had been received from a loyal student of Mrs. Eddy, and I felt that God had helped me many times in past years and would do so again. I could not as yet move the leg at all, and the pain seemed very real, although the wrist healed with no pain. For many months I read only that which tended to spiritualize thought, during which time the Journal and the Sentinel were a great help and comfort to me. Slowly but surely progress became apparent, and the doctor's verdict that a year would elapse before I could be active was disproved at the end of four months, for I was then able to attend to all my household affairs. I limped slightly, but used no support, and gradually the lameness disappeared. This healing was accomplished under the most trying circumstances. I am truly grateful—more than can be expressed in words—for the blessed truth which makes free.—Amelia Bond Gray, Los Angeles, Cal.
