Spurious Literature Enjoined

Christian Scientists who have had mailed to them from London, England, spurious publications which by their titles purported to be official periodicals of The Mother Church, will be interested to know that on July 27, 1916, there came to trial in the English courts the case of The Christian Science Publishing Society, of Boston, Mass., against Annie C. Bill, et al. At the hearing before Mr. Justice Sargant in the Chancery Court it was stated on behalf of the plaintiffs, for whom Mr. A. J. Walter, K.C., and Mr. G. C. Kingsbury, instructed by Messrs. Ashurst, Morris, Crisp and Company, appeared, that three publications had recently been issued in London by the defendants, who not only adopted the plaintiffs' name of "The Christian Science Publishing Society" as their publishing name, but took the identical titles of the plaintiffis' said periodicals, namely, the "Christian Science Sentinel," "The Christian Science Journal," and "The Christian Science Quarterly" respectively for their three publications.

On the plaintiffs moving for an interim injunction, however, it was decided to treat the hearing of the motion as the trial of the action, the defendants through their counsel, Mr. Sebastian, instructed by Messrs. Trower, Still and Company, perpetually undertaking not to use again the plaintiffs' name in connection with any of their publications, and not to use the names of the plaintiffs' said periodicals, or any of them, or any names similar thereto, or any colorable imitation thereof, in any way. The defendants were ordered to pay the plaintiffs' taxed costs.
