Our critic has confused the latest theories of natural science...

Cheyenne (Wyo.) Leader

Our critic has confused the latest theories of natural science with the teachings of Christian Science, and thereby results the "wild nonsense" of which he complains. Closer study of the authorized lecture on Christian Science would show him that Christian Science does not teach that electrons have anything to do with Life or the divine Mind. The reason electrons were referred to in the lecture was to show that from the standpoint of the natural scientist, who has abandoned the atom as the basis of matter and now clings to the electron, so called, as that basis, nothing is really known as to the nature of matter. So, as one has said, "until some one can tell us what matter is, no one will know that matter is."

The Christian Scientist is not interested in the theories pertaining to atoms and electrons, except so far as in attempting to explain matter they explain it away. The Bible says that God is Spirit, and God is All-in-all, which is the basis of Christian Science, or the Science of Christianity. However, this does not mean that God exists in or is a part of an animal or of a tree, as our critic infers. Such teaching is pantheism, to which Christian Science is directly opposed.

The principle of mathematics is available everywhere, but does not occupy space; neither does Spirit, God, occupy physical space, although infinite and ever present. The Christian Science God is not "a principle" but is the divine Principle, Love, the supreme governing intelligence, or Mind, of the universe, including man. Our critic is disturbed by the thought of Mind being able to speak. It may be asked, Did matter ever speak?
