A sense of deep gratitude to God impels me to testify to the many blessings which have come to me through Christian Science. In my earliest childhood I sustained a fracture of the frontal bone, as the result of which I suffered for nearly fifty years with the most severe headaches, and these at times would grow almost unbearable. Of late years the attacks were of more frequent occurrence, and although I tried many means of obtaining relief, they all proved of no avail.
A few of the many physicians whom I consulted then advised an operation in order to remove the nerve in the head which was said to have been injured. I could not make up my mind, however, to take this step, first because the physicians neither could nor would give any assurance of certainty with regard to the elimination of the trouble, and second because I had gone repeatedly through discouraging experiences in connection with very serious abdominal operations, which I would rather not deal with further. I felt that I had had more than my share in that direction. I was ailing almost continuously, never felt free from pain, and often became weary of life. The thought of having become a burden to my husband and children caused me keen suffering; in short our beautiful, harmonious family life seemed to have been destroyed.
But "man's extremity is God's opportunity." Although the teachings of Christian Science were not unknown to me, I had not until then given the subject serious attention. Finally, however, I decided to apply to a Christian Science practitioner, and he declared himself ready to give me his assistance. His patient and simple explanations greatly helped me in becoming familiar with this glorious teaching. The understanding of true being, of divine Love,—the only power,—enabled me to realize the healing for which I had longed, and with it returned the domestic happiness which I believed had gone.
