Among the Churches

Current Notes

SPRINGFIELD, MASS.—A congregation of about eight hundred attended the first service in the completed Sunday school room of the new edifice of First Church of Christ, Scientist, at State and Orleans Streets, yesterday morning [June 25]. The occupation of this basement story of the new structure meets for the time being the demand of the church for larger seating capacity, a need which has been felt for several years. It was the outgrowing of the old building which occupied the same site that led primarily to the formulation of plans for the new one. A seating capacity of twelve hundred is planned for the auditorium of the finished church. The Sunday school room, which is 78 by 60 feet, contains seven hundred and sixty-six fixed seats. As it stands now, the building represents an expenditure of fully fifty-two thousand dollars, with money in sight to meet all bills when due.

KEARNEY, NEB.—A beautiful new church edifice is to mark another epoch in the growth and activity of the local Christian Science church, according to the completed arrangements announced yesterday [May 18] by officers of the local organization. The new building will take the place of the one now used by First Church of Christ, Scientist. The lot on Twenty-third Street and First Avenue on which the present church is located was purchased many years ago, and the building has been used since that time.—Kearney Times.
