Several years ago I was healed through Christian Science of tubercular disease of the stomach, and also of typhoid fever. I had known of Christian Science about four years before my healing took place; had attended services and read a great deal of the literature, as we had the text—book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, in our home; but I did not understand that God is my life. Each day I grew worse and my life seemed to be slipping away. Finally the time came when I was unable to get up, and when my husband said something must be done, I said I was going to take up Christian Science in earnest. I then realized as never before that I was God's child, and that His was the only power which could take care of me. I called a practitioner from the couch where I lay, as the telephone was at hand, gave her my name and told her I needed help. As she did not hear from me for two days she came to see me, but I was unconscious, and remained so for three weeks. Through it all God was guiding me to a better understanding of Life, although to mortal sense I seemed to be passing on.

My brothers, who knew nothing of Science, thought we ought to have a doctor, so my husband called the family physician, who had attended me for about twelve years. He diagnosed the case and then told my husband I was getting the best care I could have, but he did not think I would last through the night. I was still the same in the morning, however, and for several days afterward, but the seeming condition had no power with God, and I was brought back from "the valley of the shadow of death" and placed on the firm foundation of Truth. In about two weeks after becoming conscious I was able to be propped up, and after working as best I could with the help of the practitioner and my sisters and mother, who were Scientists, also my husband, who was very brave although he knew little of Science at that time, we overcame the various conditions which arose and seemed to put me back. Today I am in perfect health.

Since this healing God has been my only physician, and I have never been in bed a whole day on account of sickness. I have a little daughter nine years old who is able to overcome many childish ailments with her understanding of Truth. I have also seen my husband go down to the gates of death; but when error tried to tell me there was fear, I would declare that "perfect love casteth out fear . . . He that feareth is not made perfect in love," and hold steadfastly to God, good. He had a beautiful healing. I saw our home broken up through sickness and we passed through all kinds of financial difficulties, but we knew that God was our only supply, and by holding fast to all that is good we are rich in the truth. We can truly say that our home is built on the foundation of Christian Science.
