Unusual commencement exercises were held recently at the Kansas penitentiary at Lansing.

Religion Made Practical

The very first evidence of sincerity in religion is the practical application of it.

The Practical and the Ideal

Practical views of life and the ideal have long been considered irreconcilable, and the dreamer and idealist often has faith in humanity sadly shaken; but to spend time bemoaning one's disappointments is a narrow and selfish course of action.

The Key to the Kingdom

We have in the word "Key," in the title of the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs.

Gratitude Freely Expressed

There are some who know that they have a demonstrable understanding of Truth, that they can clothe it in appropriate language, and can then write or voice it in such a manner that every reader or hearer may be thereby benefited.

Preparation

In all departments of human activity the need of careful and thorough training is evident, and such training usually involves considerable self-denial and mental discipline.

Sunshine everywhere!...

Sunshine everywhere! I have no care—Nor do I pineFor rays that on my brother shine; For all is mineWith sunshine everywhere!'Tis but—lo here, lo there—To study close another's lot;And to compareWith his what thou hast got; Each has his shareWith sunshine everywhere!
The editor was asked one day if he was a Christian Scientist.
The criticism that "Christian Science is neither Christian nor scientific" is as old as the Christian Science movement, which nevertheless survives the scathing impeachment and indeed thrives vigorously.
Your account of a professor's lecture on archaeology in Lyman Hall, Syracuse University, makes him state in effect that many of the inscriptions unearthed at Epidaurus "sound strangely similar to the writing of Mrs.
There appeared in a recent issue of your paper a review of "A History of American Literature Since 1870," in which reference was made to Mrs.
In the columns of your paper is given a report of a sermon against Christian Science by a local minister which, in justice to this religion and to those interested in knowing the truth about it, requires some correction.
A letter published in your paper contained the following statements: "I have a hearty admiration for the Christian Scientist who can actually make himself believe there is no pain when his body is racked by it.
Perhaps the principal cause of our reverend critic's failure to understand Christian Science is found in his inability to perceive the difference between the real and the unreal, and as this distinction constitutes the groundwork of Christian Science teaching, it is well worth our while to consider it.

The "whole gospel"

That Christian healing is an essential part of Christian ministry is certainly, even if slowly, being recognized in the churches.

No Real Resistance to Truth

What is this apparently instinctive resistance to truth so often exhibited by human beings?

The Lectures

William D.
For ten years before hearing of Christian Science I wore glasses for headache.
In the hope of encouraging others I send the following account of my first experience of healing in Christian Science.
Several years ago I had an experience which convinced me of the power of Truth, as set forth in the writings of Mrs.
I first came in contact with practical Christianity several years ago.
Several years ago I was healed through Christian Science of tubercular disease of the stomach, and also of typhoid fever.
I was healed by Christian Science of what was pronounced a leakage of the heart, and of partial paralysis of the right hand and arm, the result of an attack of gastric fever.
It is several years since I came to Christian Science for help for our little boy, who was suffering from what was called a diseased condition of the mastoid, after having a gathering in each ear.
Christian Science was brought to my attention by a friend.
I am very glad to be able to tell my fellow men of the many benefits which I have received through Christian Science.
About four years ago I was healed in Christian Science of a very obstinate disease of the stomach, bowels, and kidneys, after suffering untold agony for eighteen months and being bedfast the greater part of that time.
Words are inadequate to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me, but I know that each word spoken for Truth's sake will help some one still in bondage to sickness or sin.
